Package Size: kwrite: 256 k kate: 6.2 M Installation Size: Installing kate you end up with 50M more than with kwrite. There might be other reasons, like integration, but I don't know them. I'm not saying it's a bad idea to switch, I'm just giving one reason why it might be the way it currently is.
