I have never been in such keyboard freeze situation before, I really feel sorry. If you cannot get logged in to the text-only mode, there is nothing I can do for you. Most maintenance jobs are done in text-only mode with root privilege. If that is a bug, we can do nothing but wait until someone fix this bug.

this is simply the crappy GRUB2
not only that the whole configuration is a cluttered script
mixup virtually nobody understands to deal with, it's the
first time in my life i saw a boot-manager freezing and
nobody is able to repdrocue it predictable to find and
fix the reason and it hits you only if you hardly need
change anything because 99.9% a year you do not touch it
