Did you enter the runlevel 3 and successfully log on using your username and password ?
Q.
Hey Qingwei,
I made an attempt, but was not able to advance or do anything. Same results as before. Thanks, Ronnie

Subject: RE: Installation woes
Hi Ronnie ,
There are something similar happened at my laptop. What i did is , reboot the system and enter the command line interface , (i.e ., runlevel 3,) and use yum group install command to install both gnome and KDE desktop environment , then reboot again , and things go well.
I am not sure whether it is an installation bug or not, but it worth a try.
Best regard,
Qingwei

Greetings,
I followed your instructions and ran the “sudo fedup-cli –network 19” and it downloaded. Then, I went through the install process remembering your saying to me that it took probably overnight. I waited over 24 hours watching a screen with a blue background and the date and time digitally. So, I rebooted and the flash screen comes to Fedora logo in the center of the screen. Then a sign in window with my name. I input my password and the screen is dark green or bluish (?) with the Fedora logo at the bottom now of the screen. And, that’s it; nothing else happens. I move the mouse around not seeing anything at all. I can click on a restart or shut down button. But nothing else happens. Help!! Please… Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,
Yes, George is right about the installation duration. I run fedup overnight to get upgrade. Sure Ronnie, I will help you with the installation.
FedUP:
Please go through the FedUp webpage first, then you will use the command listed following in section of network of "Preparing for the Upgrade",
$sudo fedup-cli --network 19
and it takes about about one hour to finished at my laptop. Then you reboot and enter the system upgrade in GRUB selection. once the system reboots, there should be a new entry in the GRUB menu titled System Upgrade, that is the time-consuming part, I suggest you do it at overnight time.
Best

One thing to be aware of is that fedup can sometimes hang at the end of the installation. This happened to me going from FC17 to FC19. A manual reboot cures it. It is a known issue and the recommended course is a manual reboot. However, fedup can take **HOURS** complete, so run it overnight to be sure it's done.

Hey Qingwei,
Could you possibly assist me? How do I go about running FedUp to upgrade from Fedora 17 to 19. What command line do I use? Thanks very much.

Hi Ronnie,
Did the installer successfully reach the command-line selection interface, i.e., the screen with several options, such as "Install Fedora 19", "Troubleshooting" , etc.? If you have seen it, press ESC to switch from the fedora logo booting screen to a more detailed progress screen, and let us know at which step the system freezing.
By the way, if you have internet access on your PC, I think you can upgrade from Fedora 17 to 19 using FedUp, it is a more convenient way to get upgraded.
Best regards,
Gerry

Hey Gerry,
Yes, I have the CD as the first device at BIOS setting. By the way, I downloaded the file twice and burned on two different CDs. Thanks

Hi Ronnie,
Could you please be more specific? Did you set boot from CD at Bios setting?

Greetings! I have downloaded Fedora 19 KDE Spin and burned the iso to CD. When I begin the installation process, it does not enter or begin the process. I am currently using Fedora 17 Gnome 3 with KDE software applications. I prefer the KDE application. But, problem is the installation process will not initiate. Thanks for your help.
