Each system sends its own hostname (propagated statically, ahead of
time, as DHCP_CLIENT_ID in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*)
when each system issues the DHCPREQUEST. The DHCP server (dnsmasq
on DD-WRT) honors the client request (either sending back the same
hostname as was requested, or not sending back any hostname at all)
and updates the DNS tables. So it doesn't matter what the hostname
used to be. The /etc/sysconfig/network:HOSTNAME= is propagated
statically to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*, and then
dynamically to DNS via DHCPREQUEST+DHCPACK.
As of F18 the hostname entry in /etc/sysconfig/network has been
deprecated and /etc/hostname should be used instead.
It should be transparently migrated from /etc/sysconfig/network to
/etc/hostname but there might be bugs lurking around...
