Nice, I didn't know multiple models could/had to be specified for some devices. That did the trick. Thanks for the suggestions Clemens.

Then you're using some older kernel source.

Anyway, this will not work if the first HDA device happens to be the HDMI output.
In that case, you have to use:

  options snd-hda-intel model=,alc283-chrome
