Can't play midi on external Midi piano

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello,

I have a Yamaha Arius YDP-V240 piano connected via USB to my computer.
It is listed correctly as output device:

$ aconnect -o
client 14: 'Midi Through' [type=kernel]
    0 'Midi Through Port-0'
client 24: 'Digital Piano' [type=kernel]
    0 'Digital Piano MIDI 1'

But when I try to play a Midi file on it then I only hear silence:

$ aplaymidi test.mid --port 24:0

I also tried connecting vkeybd to the piano with "vkeybd --addr 24:0".
This also just produces silence. When I do the same with a software
synthesizer (timidity) then it works.

There are no problems playing Midi from a Windows machine. But with Alsa
on Linux I have no luck. I tried on Fedora 19, Fedora 20 and Ubuntu
12.04 LTS. The results are always the same.

What can go wrong here? Is there some hidden volume setting which may be
set to 0? alsamixer says the sound device (The piano) has no volume
controls. Or maybe it has something to do with this error message I get
in syslog when connecting the device?

Failed to load module "module-alsa-card" (argument: "device_id="2"
name="usb-YAMAHA_Corporation_Digital_Piano-00-Piano"
card_name="alsa_card.usb-YAMAHA_Corporation_Digital_Piano-00-Piano"
namereg_fail=false tsched=yes fixed_latency_range=no ignore_dB=no
deferred_volume=yes card_properties="module-udev-detect.discovered=1""):
initialization failed.

Using the piano as input device seems to work. I can connect the input
port 24:0 (The piano) with 128:0 (Timidity) and the computer plays the
notes played on the piano. So it looks like this is just an output issue.

Any ideas?
