I found this old luinux-usb post, that suggested it might help to
disable the HID control on the USB sound cards:

However, I can't figure out how to address the HID control (i.e. what
echo argument to use) in my case. My lsusb -t looks like this:

I tried "echo 4-1.1:2.3 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usbhid/unbind" but got
"No such device".
