I have read of users with older kernel versions than your Fedora 16 alpha successfully using the model option 'acer-aspire-4930g' instead of 'acer'. did you try that 'acer-aspire-4930g' option ? 

Or instead simply try with no model option and see if the Fedora 16 kernel will auto configure the alsa driver..

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, and sound plays fine to the headphone jack only - no sound from the internal speakers on this laptop.
