That's what I mean. It IS a Asus Sound card, no matter if it is onboard
or a separate card.

OK, now I understand your problem. But I'm afraid, this isn't a Alsa
problem. In my system, there are two audio daemons:

!!Sound Servers on this system
!!----------------------------

Pulseaudio:
      Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/pulseaudio)
      Running - Yes

ESound Daemon:
      Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/esd)
      Running - No

At your system isn't Pulseaudio running, but instaed:

!!Sound Servers on this system
!!----------------------------

ESound Daemon:
      Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/esd)
      Running - No

aRts:
      Installed - Yes (/opt/kde3/bin/artsd)
      Running - No

Jack:
      Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/jackd)

I'm not a expert, but maybe your Sound configuration is wrong. Alsa works, because you hear sound.
      Running - No
