Thanks everyone who shared his thoughts.

I think I'll get myself the M Audio transit. It seems to be an
expensive deck of cards, but it sounds like the quality is good and I
guess it's not easy to achieve that on that scale.

For now I'll stick with my pc-headset (sennheiser), which can operate
without a preamp as far as I can tell , so I do not have to figure out
how to make one of those with my very limited electric s knowledge.
