Another thing that might be worth trying is: 
	 cat /proc/asound/version
I believe that 2.6.29 comes with version 1.0.18a. There was significant 
work done on hda_intel (judging from the change log) between 18a and 
19. Compiling the driver from source and installing it is not 
difficult; perhaps its worth a try.
