I think you're going about this a bit wrong. Perhaps you should look into some audio servers such as "JACK", "PulseAudio", or "Enlightened Sound Daemon" (ESD) which are designed to allow multiple audio software/hardware input/output configurations. Note: I have not done this myself, but from the following references, it seems quite doable.
