Hello. I am having trouble with the 'softvol' plugin in the newest version of ALSA and I would appreciate some help. Here is what's happening. Yesterday I was running with this config: --------------------------------- Driver version: 1.0.14rc1 Library version: 1.0.13 Utilities version: 1.0.13 --------------------------------- and 'softvol' was working great. There were, however, other problems which forced me to upgrade to this: --------------------------------- Driver version: 1.0.18a Library version: 1.0.18 Utilities version: 1.0.18 --------------------------------- This fixed my original problem, but broke a much more important to me 'softvol' plugin functionality. Here is the relevant config: --------------------------------- pcm.nforce "plughw:nForce2,0" pcm.audiophile "plughw:M2496,0" pcm.softvol { type softvol slave { pcm "audiophile" } control { name "SoftMaster" card M2496 } } --------------------------------- When I try 'aplay -Dsoftvol -v test.wav', it runs with this (correct) output: http://pastebin.com/m75e730cc but there is no sound and my CPU is immediately and continuosly 100% used up by aplay. I tried to route the sound to 'nforce' and got exactly the same results, so it's not a driver issue. This clearly suspicious CPU usage tells me that there is a serious problem with this version of ALSA, or the way I installed it, but what would I have to do to break just *one* plugin? Has anyone else experienced this issue?
