Headphone problems with SigmaTel STAC 9228

Dear Alsa users,

I have been having a whole lot of trouble with the SigmaTel STAC 9228
on my Dell Inspiron 1525N. The problems have been varying
constantly. I describe the current problems I face, with Alsa 1.0.18
and 1.0.18.12.gc7f3e.53.g606fd. I describe the issue below:

My notebook has three sockets: two for headphones, one for the
Mic. Now, the issue is that:

- when I plug my headphone into the first socket, the speaker turns
off, but I hear nothing on my headphone.
- when I plug it into the second headphone socket, it works perfectly
(speaker turns off, headphone works fine)
- when I plug it into the Mic socket, the headphone works with a
slight lower volume, but still acceptable. This is not a problem for
me, as I use the in built microphone on the notebook.

Now, my question is, how do I sort out the problem of the non-working
headphone jack?

My alsa-info is here:

Thanks!
