Now that i know the sound is working over theHDMI cable, I does one  take all the mixer output and redirect it to the right"channel", in my case, plughw:0,3.  The must some kind of way to redirect allthe sound through that mixer, or line, or whatever you call it. Anyone couldhelp me here ?Here was the info that helped me get the sound over HDMI.> [root <at> localhost usr]# cat /etc/modprobe.conf> alias eth0 r8169install scsi_hostadapter /sbin/modprobe ata_piix;/sbin/modprobe ahci; /bin/trueinstall usb-interface /sbin/modprobe uhci_hcd;/sbin/modprobe ehci_hcd; /bin/true> alias eth1 r8169alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394# Sound Cardalias snd-0snd-hda-intel# ALSA portionalias char-major-116 snd# OSS/Free portionaliaschar-major-14 soundcorealias sound-slot-0 snd-0> > # card #1alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-ossalias sound-service-0-1snd-seq-ossalias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-ossalias sound-service-0-8snd-seq-ossalias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss[root <at> localhost usr]# cat/proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec> > > > Codec: Chrontel Chrontel HDMI> > Codec: Realtek ALC888[root <at> localhost asound]# cat pcm> 00-02: ALC883 Analog : ALC883 Analog : capture 1> > > 00-01: ALC883 Digital : ALC883 Digital : playback 1 : capture 1> 00-00: ALC883 Analog : ALC883 Analog : playback 1 : capture 1> 00-03: ATI HDMI : ATI HDMI : playback 1> Finnaly, I read the following bug report on alsa and the late post directed meto the right commands to test the sound output :https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3654It made me discover"speaker-test". By using > "speaker-test -D plughw:0,3" I got static noise in my speaker. From there, Itried the mplayer command : "> mplayer -ao alsa:device=plughw=0.3 somefile.avi" and got the sound. Dirk, Onmandriva 2008, the sound was working just fine with the included release ofAlsa, however, I might suggest you try the following modified version of thedrivers by realtek :http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=falseBythe way, they seem to have a new version dated from May 15, 2008 ! To make themwork, I didnt used the auto-install they give but untarred the"alsa-driver-hg2008****" archive and compiled those driver and followed thesteps in the README for the modprobe tweak. I would suggest trying that.Hope ithelps, i'll try to check the mailing list more often. Philippe-A. Lemelin.OnSat, May 17, 2008 at 2:14 PM, Dirk Tamme <dirk.tamme <at> gmx.de> wrote:>

How/where did you get the "Chrontel HDMI Codec" from? I have the same chipset(but in on an nvidia based board), I can see the hdmi port in aplay, but can'tget sound to output via it.
