The fact that it worked on the CentOS and not on debian indicates that 
it is not an alsa problem, but a debian problem.  They must do some 
configuration differently than CentOS.  You are unlikely to get that 
help here unless someone has had that specific problem.  You might try 
comparing kernel version, kernel parameters, modprobe.conf between the 
two systems.
