Hi all, I could not find an answer to this question, although I'm probably not the only one wanting to use S/PDIF-in on Linux on the Realtek ALC889A, Gigabyte MA69GM-S2H onboard sound. (Actually, I'm facing a similar problem in Windows XP.) I'm using snd-hda-intel, model "6stack-dig". It seems I can only record from my S/PDIF input. But no matter what I try, I just cannot hear the sound from my S/PDIF-In on my analog speaker set. In other words, I can record 10 seconds using: arecord -D iec958 -c2 -c 2 -d 10 -t wav -f cd test10s.wav But there's no way that I can hear it real-time trough the controls alsa(mixer) gives me. The only way I get some idea of what I'm recording is to feed the arecord output into aplay, which gives me sound with a 1 second delay (which of course is not an acceptable workaround). It seems there is just no existing route from IEC958-In to the analog outputs... Am I the only one having this problem?! Is there a trick that I can pull in my .asoundrc? Thanks in advance, David FWIW, here's my aadebug output: ---------------------- ALSA Audio Debug v0.1.0 - wo mei 7 12:13:43 CEST 2008 http://alsa.opensrc.org/aadebug http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt Kernel ---------------------------------------------------- Linux windsor 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 07:42:25 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Loaded Modules -------------------------------------------- snd_hda_intel 263712 11 snd_pcm_oss 44672 0 snd_mixer_oss 17664 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 80388 5 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss snd_seq_dummy 4740 0 snd_seq_oss 33152 0 snd_seq_midi 9600 0 snd_rawmidi 25728 1 snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event 8448 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi snd_seq 53232 6 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event snd_timer 24324 5 snd_pcm,snd_seq snd_seq_device 9228 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq snd 54660 25 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device snd_page_alloc 11400 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm Modprobe Conf --------------------------------------------- Warning: module config file does not exist This means any kernel modules will not be auto loaded See your linux distro docs on how to create this file Proc Asound ----------------------------------------------- Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.14 (Thu May 31 09:03:25 2007 UTC). 0 [SB ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB HDA ATI SB at 0xfe024000 irq 16 2: : timer 3: : sequencer 4: [ 0- 2]: digital audio capture 5: [ 0- 1]: digital audio playback 6: [ 0- 1]: digital audio capture 7: [ 0- 0]: digital audio playback 8: [ 0- 0]: digital audio capture 9: [ 0] : control 00-02: ALC882 Analog : ALC882 Analog : capture 2 00-01: ALC882 Digital : ALC882 Digital : playback 1 : capture 1 00-00: ALC882 Analog : ALC882 Analog : playback 1 : capture 2 Client info cur clients : 3 peak clients : 3 max clients : 192 Client 0 : "System" [Kernel] Port 0 : "Timer" (Rwe-) Port 1 : "Announce" (R-e-) Connecting To: 15:0 Client 14 : "Midi Through" [Kernel] Port 0 : "Midi Through Port-0" (RWe-) Client 15 : "OSS sequencer" [Kernel] Port 0 : "Receiver" (-we-) Connected From: 0:1 Dev Snd --------------------------------------------------- controlC0 pcmC0D0c pcmC0D0p pcmC0D1c pcmC0D1p pcmC0D2c seq timer CPU ------------------------------------------------------- model name : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ cpu MHz : 1000.000 model name : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ cpu MHz : 1000.000 RAM ------------------------------------------------------- MemTotal: 2074856 kB SwapTotal: 3903784 kB Hardware -------------------------------------------------- 00:00.0 Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS690 Host Bridge 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference Don't miss this year's exciting event.
