Download from alsa-project.org. I think I have the same chipset in the VIA Epia SN board. And I have to say that it got even worse from ALSA 1.0.14 to 1.0.16. In 1.0.14 it was just the high pitched noise on some channels (that I now just mute) and the absence of a system beep. In 1.0.16 all the problems from 1.0.14 are still present, but in addition, stereo has gone and sound is only played on the left channel. I can supply whatever information you need, in order to track it down.
