Hi, I think I need to compile my own alsa package. I'm using ubuntu fiesty fawn with my motherboard HAD Intel ALC883 audio chipset. I'm having a quick and loud audio chirp when switching from Dolby Prologic to Dolby Digital. I think this is because the ubuntu packages are out of date. So, is there any good howto for compiling/installing the various alsa packages. Something that would tell me, for starters, which on of the 8 packages listed on the alsa web page that I need. Ubuntu is currently on 1.0.13-3. I will need to uninstall my home-rolled packages when Ubuntu catches up. How to I completely and safely do this?
