Re: Surround sound with M-Audio Revolution 5.1

Hi!

I didn't see you trying the following command, which, in contrary to the
commands below, should work:

speaker-test -c -Dsurround51

This plays a 6 channel audio stream on a 6 channel device. The commands
below played 2 channel streams on 6 channel devices or 6 channel streams
on 2 channel devices, which both result in only front left/right
producing sound.

If you want your stereo sound to be played back on all the 6 channels
available, you have to do upmixing. I admit that the wiki page is not
linked to very well. Anyway, here it is:

http://alsa.opensrc.org/Playing_stereo_on_surround_sound_setup_(Howto)

The "ch51dup" device explained there does stereo to 5.1 upmixing using
the surround51 device a playback device, which should be able to produce
6 channel sound.

Regards, Ingo
