Hi Michael,

I've got your same problem and asked here few months ago.
I'm also running alsa 1.0.11 (with the new one...new problems!).

- arecord -f cd -D hw:1 -c 2 file01.wav
OK
- arecord -f cd -D hw:1 -c 4 file01.wav
arecord: set_params:906 Channels count not available
(same with hw:1,0 and hw:1,1)
- arecord -f cd -D hw:1,2 -c 4 file01.wav
arecord: main:547: audio open error: device busy

Running jackd, it can't open 'hw:1,1' and 'hw:1,2' is already in use.
If I add '-i 4' I get:
ALSA: cannot set channel capture count to 4 for capture
ALSA: cannot configure capture channel
cannot load driver module alsa.

No way to start Qjackctrl, for me.
In Summer there was a bug (regarding tascam) fixed by jackd developers,
so be sure to use the release that works with us428.

Sorry to be unhelpful.

Good luck.
