Well, video players do have audio configuration - either on
command line or through their own GUI, so the changes end up in
a file, and the player often needs to be restarted.

If you do want to play through ALSA, first make sure 'aplay' can
play a WAV file.

Then check how to configure your video player how to use ALSA as your
audio system.

As a second thought - if you mean streaming video rather than video
on your HD/DVD/CD, there may be a layer of additional problems, like
browser multimedia plugin and its configuration, or/and flash plugin,
etc.
