You can have several sockets for the same client. You can have several sockets which map to the very same client with the very same number of ports, but with distinct ordering for instance. What distinguishes each socket from each other is its type (audio/MIDI), subtype (input/output), client name regex, and most of all its ordered set of plugs which in trun map one-to-one to respective client ports.
