How to split snd_intel_hda in 8 seperate mono channels (just like jackd does)?

Hello group,

I have a board with an integrated Realtek ALC 883 soundcard.
Using jackdIi get playback_1 thru playback_8, 1&2, 2&3 and so on being
the left/right channels on front, side, center and LFE.

The problem seems to be that I cannot access those channels
individually using mplayer (or any alsa-capable player that is).

     mplayer -ao jack:port=playback_3 test.mp3
plays out the given mp3 quite nicely on channel 3 _and only there_ (it
does have a few soundbugs (ticking noice) though).

Funny thing is:
     mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=0,1 test.mp3
does not work at all (only 0,0 does work).

My guess would be that I need to write a special .asoundrc to "split"
my card into 8 individual channels, I just don't know how to do that.
Reading the docs and searching google and this mailing list has
confused me greatly, but I still cannot write my own .asoundrc.

Maybe onw of you can help?

Best regards & thanks in advance,
 Christian.
