I would like to know how to change the default colormap entries to a number larger than 256 and allocate 512 or 1024 color cells in DirectColor.
I can already make a private colormap linked to the non-default visual in DirectColor.
And run the xserver in Direct or TrueColor, but can not allocate more than 256 cells at a time.
That's because there's very little, if any, hardware supported by the server that allows for more than 8 bits per colour component.
