It seems likely >you have a filesystem full situation. Well, the filesystem where X is being installed has 300-400MB of free space so I don't think it's a space issue. Literally, the installation process stopped with a make error after generating the "invalid group utmp" message. xterm was being installed and the installation script was trying to set the group id to "utmp", which isn't defined on my system as a group. I can verify the amount of free space when I get home and re-run the installation and see if I can save the output to a file I can post here. Peace...
