NetBSD 2.1 help for XFree86 4.4.0

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Help, I can't get my XFree86 v 4.4.0 working. I am
using NetBSD 2.1 kernel. Any help you can give me
would be greatly appreciated. I have a bunch of really
old systems I hope to stand up for a youth charity.

Note: this system has no connection to the Internet
(and neither will the others I'm standing up) so I am
thinking I need to work with the installed XFree86
4.4.0 instead of the newer version since I don't think
I can compile (and the machines are ancient anyway).

===================================

I feel I must be missing something obvious here.

Everything seems to match; the Card IS a Trident and
the BIOS reports it as Trident TGUI96xx, 1024 KB of
RAM which matches the Trident
9685/9680/9682/9385/9382/9385-1 PCI v. 6.00.20 Trident
Microsystems 211 card reported by Win 95 Control panel
before I blew everything away for NetBSD 2.1.

My Monitor is a Viewsonic E651, and again the BIOS
reports Monitor Refresh rates of 640X480 @85Hz;
800X600 @85 Hz; and 1024X768 @60Hz.

One oddity; I've used the xf86cfg utility over and
over again; this is the first time the mouse did not
pick up EVEN AFTER I set the mouse pointer to
"wsmouse" and the mouse device /dev/wsmouse. Weird
huh? I had no problems configuring a much more beefy
system on FreeBSD and 4.4.0; but I need to run NetBSD
on a batch of these systems so any help would be
greatly appreciated. They only have 16 MB of RAM so
I'm thinking NetBSD is the way to go.

Thanks again.
