GUI Screen Update Problem

Hello-

I am experiencing a problem where my X Windows GUI stops automatically updating meters and scrolling text displays.

When this problem occurs, the GUI displays will update only when the mouse is moving or the touch screen is contacted.
The problem is corrected only if I restart XFree86.

The problem can be forced by using the 'date' command to set the time backward, but this is unrealistic and not normally done while the application is running. However, there are 'magical times' when this occurs (i.e., 7:56 am Dec 23, 2004 and 00:59:22 am Feb 11, 2005). If I set the system clock just minutes/hours prior to the 'magical time' the system will encounter this problem when it passes through this point.

I believe I have isolated the problem to XFree86.
The windows manager and my application have been ruled out by simply eliminating/replacing them and still getting the problem.

Also, the following hw/sw configurations have been tested:
     -touch screens: dynaPro & mmmTouch
     -XFree86 versions: v4.2.0, v4.3.0, & v4.4.0,
     -display drivers and video chipset: vesa & ATI w/ Mach64GT, i810 w/ 845g

I am also running XVNC. When this problem occurs, XVNC is often still happily updating meters and text displays, which reinforces the fact that XFree86 is the root cause.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank You,
Rodney
