I can't get into 1280x1024x24 mode. 1024x768x24
works just fine.
It seems I'm having trouble getting the X server to
see all of the video memory, from XFreee86.0.log:
...
(--) ATI(0): 4096 kB of SGRAM (1:1) detected (using
4095 kB).
...
(II) ATI(0): Not using default mode "1280x1024"
(insufficient memory for mode)
(II) ATI(0): Not using default mode "1280x1024" (insufficient memory for mode) (II) ATI(0): Not using default mode "1280x1024" (insufficient memory for mode) ...
(II) ATI(0): Not using mode "1280x1024" (no mode of
this name)
I have upgraded the video RAM from 4mB to 8mB. The
above log is after booting with 8mB. What I'm
wondering is if the video RAM is probed every time the X server is started or is
this value stored in a file somewhere between boots? If it's not probed, is
there a way I can force a probe? Are there any diagnostics (like superprobe)
that would allow me to check this value independently of the X server? Any other
ideas about what I might be doing wrong?
I can post all of the XF86Config-4
and XFreee86.0.log files if this will help.
Thanks,
-Reed
