This appears to be an incomplete XFree86 installation. You are missing at least one essential module: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a We have seen a few problems like this on Red Hat systems where people think they have a correct XFree86 installation, yet they are missing essential modules. I don't think anyone ever discovered why this happens on some Red Hat systems, or at least I've never heard an explanation. Mark.
