I installed
ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.4.0/binaries/Linux-ix86-glibc23
completely. Then I wanted to install KDE-3.3.0 using the konstruct tool. This failed in kdebase. I tracked it down to the fact that
imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
did not find the config data. So I extraced them from the source tarball. It went a little
further. Now
host.def, version.def, site.def, date.def
are missing. Is it possible to generate these? I thought the binary package to the best way
to install X11 without too much trouble.
