XkbOptions not working.

I am trying to set up two keymaps on my keyboard,
switching with alt_shift from one to the other. The
relevant part of my XF86Config-4 file is:

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier	"Generic Keyboard"
	Driver "keyboard"
	Option "CoreKeyboard"
	Option "XkbRules"	"xfree86"
	Option "XkbModel"	"pc105"
	Option "XkbLayout"	"es,ru"
        Option "XkbOptions"	"grp:alt_shift_toggle"
EndSection

I cannot get to change from one map to the other with
the keyboard shortcut. There are two funny things
about it: the first one is that the toggling keys work
in the loging manager screen, before I log in as an
user (I can swicht to type in cyrillic in the "user"
field, for instance), but stop working after the
login. The second thing is that the command

setxkbmap -rules xfree86 -model pc105 -layout es,ru
-option "grp:alt_shift_toggle"

... does activate the toggling keys.

So I guess that the machine is loading something upon
login that somehow overrules the XF86Config-4 file.
Some user specific file?

Can somebody help me, please? Thanks.
