Problems enabling 3D accelration on ATI Radeon M6

I am having trouble enabling 3D accelration on my laptop with ATI Radeon 
Mobility M6.

System: Mandrake 10.0
Kernel: 2.6.8

When i run glxgears i get this error:
Xlib:  extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0"

The framerate is only approx 200 fps and I suspect 3D accelration is not 
enabled. Any sugestions?
