Firstly, I certainly do care about Linux. I've been working with it for
about 2 months, I really liked it very much and I have learned a lot about
it. But I want to work on a comfortable screen. The hardware and software
I'm using are certainly capable of doing it, but they need a line in a
configuration file that I can't realise what should be, and all my attempts
failed. That's quite frustating, and I apologize for having left this
frustation show off in my message and upset you so much.

Secondly, if you felt blackmailed I'm very sorry, but that was by no means
my intention. I simply meant: I've already upgraded to version 4.4.0 once,
and it will be useless to do it again without some advice on what to do
afterwards.

Let me also tell you that for upgrading XFree86 to version 4.4.0 I followed
the instructions in http://www.xfree86.org/4.4.0/Install.html. If this could
somehow "jeopardize the long term 
survivability of my installation", shouldn't it be clearly stated there?

No, it's not! It's using 800x600 @ 60Hz. But maybe you have implicitly
answered my question - it CAN use 800x600 @ 85Hz. So, could you please tell
me how can I have it working at that frequency?
