Dell Inspiron 8200 X11 multihead-ache

I've spent about a day trying to get two displays working in X but so far have had no success. So here's hoping at least one of you can help me out here. My apologies beforehand on the size of this email but I want to be as verbose as possible in the hopes you'll see something I'm missing.

My system is a Dell Inspiron 8200. I'm trying to use xinerama with the built-in LCD screen and an external ViewSonic A90f CRT monitor. The laptop uses an nVidia GeForce2 Go chipset. My XF86Config file can be found towards the end of this email. I have two ServerLayout sections defined: "Good" and "Bad". Running "startx -- -layout Good" works just fine (but only on one screen or the same image on both screens). However when I run "startx -- -layout Bad" I'll see the nVidia logo (sometimes briefly, other times permanently) from the nvidia driver and then my system just locks up hard. Keyboard, mouse, etc. are all completely dead and I have to do a hard reset. I have attached the X11 log files from running both layouts. You'll notice the "bad" log file appears to have some sort of XML and garbage characters mixed in.

Using nvidia-glx version 1.0.4496 and nvidia-kernel version 1.0.4496-r3.
