Hi all,
I'm using Red Hat 8.0 on an intel pentium 4 system. I have
the
following related s/w information
XFree86
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[root@localhost root]# XFree86 -version
XFree86 Version 4.2.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.2.0-72) /
X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release
6600)
Release Date: 23 January 2002
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card
is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version
before
reporting problems. (See
http://www.XFree86.Org/)
Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.18-11smp i686

xterm

[root@localhost root]# xterm -version

[root@localhost root]# emacs -version

gnome
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
gnome 2.0 (thats the best i can do, no program
available
that will give me
$gnome --version
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now when I run the program emacs and xterm I get the
following error message
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[root@localhost root]# emacs &
[1] 1327
[root@localhost root]# xterm &
[2] 1328
[1] Done emacs
[root@localhost root]#
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for
"Orchid"
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for
"Wheat"
[2]+ Done xterm
[root@localhost root]#
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So basically, it shows that emacs starts up fine but for
xterm, there are
colormap allocation issues.
I checked the file ~/.Xresources
and it shows the same colors are being used by emacs and
xterm
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
emacs*Foreground: Wheat
emacs*pointerColor: Orchid
emacs*cursorColor: Orchid
.
xterm*background: Black
xterm*foreground: Wheat
xterm*cursorColor: Orchid
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So my question is if emacs and xterm are using the same
colors then
why is xterm giving an error on starup ?
Also, since the colors aren't allocated xterm fg and
cursor are not visible.
Can someone please help in answering the above question ?
Would
really appreciate any input.
Thanks in advance
Yashesh.
