Need Brightness adjust on r128

Hi, i recently bought a discount hp pavilion f1523 lcd vga monitor. It is basically ok but pixels get saturated on dark and light colors (that is dark goes to black, and light goes to white). Adjusting lcd controls doesnt help much (the saturation may occur at the monitor's input).

Redmond's driver include brightness control and 2-dimension gamma control, that helps a lot (reducing brightness makes it look more like ok).

Now in linux and Xfree86 i can only adjust gamma, (i put it about 0.6 to make light colors darken a bit), but the result is far from perfect.

I am asking you if there is a chance of adjusting brightness or even implement the feature as a driver option or such. At least i'd like to know if i can ask someone for this question, ask for hardware details, etc. (I am forwarding this message to Kevin E. Martin and Rickard E. Faith)
