The list has not lost its spam filter.  If it did there would be literally
over a thousand spam messages getting through each day (the number of
spam messages to XFree86 lists that have been blocked by the filter so
far this week is over 12000).

Doug seems to be describing something differet though: messages that
are faked to look like XFree86 list messages, presumably so that those
getting them are less likely to automatically filter them out.
