I have a Toshiba laptop satellite 4080xcdt with slackware 9.1 installed with kde I use startx at start up to get in the V.I mode which is cool I see the KDE graphical interface the only problem was that the size of the display is standard 640x480

I have a Toshiba Stallelite 2210 (quite older than yours, as you can see) and have run different versions of Mandrake (starting at 8.2; now with 9.0) with no problems. In fact, I remember trying once with Slackware and it WAS painful!

I tried with xf86cfg (a GUI equivalent of xf86config) and got quite satisfactory results; I think it should work well, since at least your combination of graphics card & screen are working.

I would give it a try; and if it doesn't work, my suggestion is, keep on with Linux but try another distro. I have some (little) experience with both Slackware (fascinating) and Mandrake (comfortable); usually I had no problems with Mandrake detecting hardware.

I hope this is of some use, and that you don't give up with Linux.
