Using FreeBSD 4.9 and XFree86 3.3.6, As root the shell command startx starts my window manager, As a user startx gives the error message: Fatal server error: xf86OpenConsole: Server must be running with root permission You should be using Xwrapper to start the server or xdm. We strongly advise against making the server SUID root! As user the shell command Xwrapper gives the same message. As root Wwrapper starts Xwindows but not the window manager. How do users start their window manager? Is Xwrapper-1.0.3 the correct wrapper for XFree86 3.3.6? Thanks, Jeff Sandys PS: I am using 3.3.6 because 4.x will not work with my old Diamond Stealth DRAM 64 with S3 Trio64 VLB graphics card. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
