What if you comment the Input\ > Device Section out of /etc/X11/XF86Config-4? No I don't need the mouse, and my first thought was to get rid of all references to mouse devices in the XF86Config file. No joy I'm afraid. After doing a bit of googling I've been led to believe that the display card takes some responsibility for displaying the mouse directly and that forcing a "SWcursor" in the options of the display card might help. This also didn't work.
