Xv Radeon bugs??

Hi,

I've been trying to playback a DTV high definition mpeg 2 at 1920x1080i but
the only result I get is the video in the tiny strap on the top of the
screen. I'm using a radeon 9800xt and it is set to a 1920x1080 interlaced
mode found here :
http://www.sllug.org/how-to/linux-htpc/video_card_configuration.html

the mode is : ModeLine "ATSC-1080-59.94i" 74.176 1920 1960 2016 2200 1080
1082 1088 1125 Interlace

The desktop comes up normally and X seems quite happy but I simply canot get
the video to display properly. I tried and old ati rage 128 I had lying
around and the modeline works but now the only half the video is displayed (
it is also way to slow to watch). I've also tried a progressive resolution at
1920x1080 (120Hz) but the video look terrible. I've even tried xine and
mpeg2dec to play the stream with identical results so it must be the radeon
xv driver. I'm willing to try to fix this myself, I just need a pointer on
where to look for the problem.

any and all help would be greatly appreciated,

thx
