Please, send me copy of ..xinitrc. There are error messages at the last rows of attached log. When I hit Ctrl-Alt-Backspace X terminates with error messages. That is actually normal. :) If there are no programs to be loaded (like a windowmanager or xterm), startx will display a gray screen with a mouse pointer. If you want to load a windowmanager (like GNOME, KDE), you'll have to run it manually or from your .xinitrc.
