well, i'd start by installing the nvidia drivers for you gf4. and then edit your config file. This is what mine looks like. I have a gf4 ti4200 and gf2 mx400 and running the 4496 drivers compiled for 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. Both work just fine. you can get the nvidia kernel and glx from www.nvidia.com good luck here's my /etc/X11/XFree86Config file (at least that section) for your perusal. If you're new to linux, remember to use a root shell or login as root to edit this file.
