I'm guessing what your problem is. According to the log file, your monitor can do 50-120 vsync and 30-54 hsync. However, your config file has as smaller range. Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and change the HorizSync and VertRefresh values to the appropriate ones. Thuis should let you hit 1024x768 if this is what you are trying to do.
