What is fd 8 in this case?  If it is /dev/dri/*, then that is DRM_LOCK
which I have also had problems with.  In my case, I am able to go to a
VT and kill the application which gives me the X server back.  I guess
that this happens during mga_dma_flush but don't see where exactly.
It happens during exiting quake2 for me nearly every time.

Can you post some more details like your /proc/pci, server log, and
hardware configuration of your system including what is attached to what
port on the matrox card?
