I thought the # at the beginning of most lines in the host.def file was a comment marker and that I had to remove it to activate the setting. Then it hit me--the # stays put and the "#define BuildFonts NO" has to be taken outside of the comments that describe it. Sorry about the confusion. Live and learn.
