[XFree86] tft: why are some resolutions discarded?

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I just bought an al718 acer 17" TFT display and I'm very pleased with
it. it works just right at its native resolution (1280x1024) and even at
1024x768, but I cannot switch to 800x600.
this is the relevant section of XF86Config-4:
...
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "AcerAL718"
HorizSync 52-95 # from UK acer site
VertRefresh 50-75 # same as above
Option "DPMS" # what is this?
...
SubSection "Display"
       Depth 16
       Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600"
EndSubSection
...

from XFree logs I see first:
...
(II) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s): CRT-0
(--) NVIDIA(0): Detected TV Encoder: Chrontel 7005
(--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 8 bpp: 350
MHz
(--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 16 bpp: 350
MHz
(--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 32 bpp: 300
MHz
(II) Loading sub module "ddc"
(II) LoadModule: "ddc"
(II) Reloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libddc.a
(WW) NVIDIA(0): The user specified HorizSync "52.000-95.000" has been
adjusted
(WW) NVIDIA(0): to "52.000-83.000" (the intersection with
EDID-specified
(WW) NVIDIA(0): HorizSync "30.000-83.000")
(II) NVIDIA(0): AcerAL718: Using hsync range of 52.00-83.00 kHz
(II) NVIDIA(0): AcerAL718: Using vrefresh range of 50.00-75.00 Hz
(II) NVIDIA(0): Clock range: 12.00 to 350.00 MHz
...

so hsync and v sync are changed. why? and more on:
...
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "800x600" (height 1200 is larger than
(WW) NVIDIA(0): EDID-specified maximum 1024)
(**) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes for display device CRT-0:
(**) NVIDIA(0): Default mode "1280x1024": 135.0 MHz, 80.0 kHz, 75.0
Hz
(**) NVIDIA(0): Default mode "1024x768": 78.8 MHz, 60.1 kHz, 75.1
Hz
...

what's that EDID thing? why is my display called CRT? how could I fix
things to use both 1280, 1024 and 800 resolutions?

thanks!
