I just installed RedHat 7.3 (with XFree
4.2.0-8) on an older machine. As I expected, XFree86 does not start with
my Trident TGUI 9680 driver: the monitor clicks and the screen goes blank.
I've had this problem before, it seems to be a
bug in earlier versions of the driver and last time I fixed it by
downloading the latest driver from Alan Hourihane's page.
Well, it sure ain't working this time:
* If I install the driver (trident_drv.o)
only, I get an "ABI minor version (7) is newer than the server's version"
error.
* If I install the XFree86 binary too, I get a
"Caught signal 11. Server aborting" error
Is this a bug? Am I just stupid? Any fix
appreciated!
