[XFree86] Selectively rebuild the i740 driver only?

Dear all,

I'm having some problems with the i740 driver (BUG# 21). The bug tracking now says that the patch has been commited to the CVS. So I'd like to get the fixed driver from the CVS. I'm running RedHat 9 with XFree86-4.3.0-2 RPM.

I did `cvs checkout -r xf-4_3-branch xc` and now am facing a huge directory with all the X sources. Pretty impressive. Anyway, I'm not that fluent with hacking into the X's guts and the idea of recompiling and reinstalling the whole XFree86 makes me a bit dizzy. :)

Is there any simple way to compile just the i740 driver from the CVS sources and then smuggle it into the existing installation of XFree86? Could you please point me in the right direction of what basically do I need to do? I see there is i740_drv.o in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers. Perhaps it would be enough to compile only this file and simply replace the old one with the new one?

Thanks a lot,

Filip
